Savannah is privileged to be the home of Hunter Army Airfield. With a massive 350-acre aircraft parking area, this military installation serves over 5500 soldiers, airmen, guardsmen, and Marines. Their mission is to provide military/civilian training and support to the divisional units at fort Stewart and is the home to the 1/75 Ranger Battalion and the 160th SOAR. From just about anywhere in Savannah, if you look in the sky, you may see and hear the unique Chinook helicopters or low flying aircraft barreling into the airfield. Hunter has a runway with a length of over 11,000 feet which is used by many nearby bases for training, practice approaches, and landings. 

In addition, its huge departure and arrival areas are able to efficiently deploy soldiers from nearby Fort Stewart to any place in the world. If you’re looking for a little R&R you can hunt on the extensive grounds or hit the links on their public golf course. We’re very proud to have this airfield in our area and as we hear booming from heavy artillery training some evenings we are reminded of our freedoms due to these men and women serving here in South Georgia.
